Grieving together

When she lost her son, the support from her HIE family immediately flowed in.

Jessica Mizell had learned about Hope for HIE through a social worker at the hospital her son, Waylon, was transferred to. She had already gotten to know many other HIE families during her journey.

They had celebrated together, vented together and grieved together.

“I didn't feel alone anymore at that moment,” she said.

In July, Jessica lost her son and was in shock. Immediately, her HIE family was there, she said.

“My HIE mom tribe was there for me and showered me with so much love, support, prayers, and good vibes,” she said.

From Hope for HIE, she received flowers. And her son’s visitation was filled with cards from other HIE families she had met through the foundation, she said.

The prayers, kind words and encouragement meant so much to her, she said.

“It was so remarkable to know how much Waylon was loved,” she said.
