Danielle Guez Barber, MD PhD joins the Medical Advisory Board

November 16th, 2020  |  By HOPE FOR HIE FOUNDATION

We are very excited to welcome Dr. Danielle Barber, a pediatric neurologist, laboratory-based researcher from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and HIE mom, to our Medical Advisory Board. She will be working with Hope for HIE to not only represent the HIE parent experience, but bridge her clinical work and laboratory work with mouse models in HIE research to build connections with research. Her full bio is below.

Danielle Guez Barber, MD PhD is an attending physician in Child Neurology and a Research Associate at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Barber graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2003 with a BSc in Brain and Cognitive Sciences. She then joined the Medical Scientist Training Program at Yale University School of Medicine, and graduated from Yale Medical School cum laude in 2012. In 2011 she completed a PhD in Neuroscience through the Graduate Partnerships Program connecting Yale and the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Dr. Barber completed residency training in Pediatrics and Child Neurology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Since 2019, she has been focusing her work both in the clinic and in the laboratory on children with HIE. In the lab, Dr. Barber uses a mouse model to understand the role of microglia (brain immune cells) in the sex differences seen after HIE, with particular attention to the cognitive and affective challenges. Dr. Barber is also the Mom of a bright, funny and very hard-working girl who had HIE at birth.
