HIE Awareness Ambassador: Monique Arnoldus

April 25th, 2023  | Family Stories

Meet Monique Arnoldus, one of our HIE Awareness Ambassadors from United Arab Emirates, Dubai!

What is your story and connection with HIE?

My name is Monique and I’m the proud of mom of my H.I.E Warrior Zack. Zack turned 4 on April 11th and we found out a few months after he was born that April is also HIE Awareness Month. I immediately knew that I would want to be a part of raising awareness as much as I can. Zack spent 4 months in NICU amd even though he was given a week to live he proved the whole world wrong. He has the worst case of H.I.E, he is deaf, blind, cannot wall, talk or see but despite all of that he is my Hero. My daily reminder that miracles still happen everyday.

How did you first hear about the diagnosis of HIE?

When my son was born.

How did you first hear about Hope for HIE?

On Facebook a few months after my son was born.

What do you want the world to know most about your story and HIE?

That we are still human, my son might be different but his heart still beats the same like all of us. We want the world to know that there’s nothing wrong with holding onto Hope and no matter how small or big your diagnosis is, your story matters!
