Hope for the Holidays – Sharing JOY with our Community

December 19th, 2021  | Give Hope  | News

The holidays are one of the toughest times of the year for our families. Expectations of what life was “supposed” to be like, in the thick of cold and flu season, and the last couple of years… a global pandemic.

Since 2016, Hope for HIE has given away over $10,000 per year in items that improve the quality of life for children and families impacted by HIE.

We just wrapped up another wonderful year, and are so grateful that we are able to do this year after year, especially with the “extra” that comes with being a part of a community where a traumatic event brings you together. This was also the second year of a dedicated program to support our loss families.

Families were eligible to win various adaptive equipment, household management items, experiences, loss commemoration and support, gift cards and more.

This year, in particular, we were excited to kick off a new initiative with the Songs of Love Foundation. On the final day of our holiday giveaways, we were able to gift 100 custom songs for our families, and begin this new collaboration to help our families feel even more connected and uplifted.

These songs are professionally written and recorded, using details from that child’s life. For example, Betsy Pilon, Executive Director, provided a few details about her son Max – from his love of heavy metal music to his love of baseball and favorite stuffed animals – to help develop the song. The result? Hear it for yourself below.

Songs of Love is also going to create a Spotify playlist of all songs created for Hope for HIE families, so our community will be able to listen to all of them! Be sure to check back for that.

Song of Love Example created for Max

Lyrics:

Here comes Max from his road trip / He’s as cool as Dog Man / There goes Max
With a ball and bat / Time for baseball again / There’s only one Max / He’s a wizard
Magic like Harry Potter / That’s our Max playing Battleship / You know he’s born to win
Max is awesome / He’s a superhero / Fun, tenacious, and a little ornery
Got lots of love all around him / Just ask his Mom and Dad and Emily
Here comes Max, with his friends Bah the Lamb and Black the Bear / There goes Max
Switch in his hands / Time to have fun again / There’s only one Max / He likes to learn
He loves science and math / That’s our Max / He likes a tasty treat
Pizza or seafood can’t be beat
Max is awesome / He’s a superhero / Fun, tenacious, just a little ornery
Got lots of love all around him / Just ask his Mom and Dad and Emily
Max is awesome / He’s a superhero / Fun, tenacious, just a little ornery
Got so much love all around him / Just ask his Mom and Dad and Emily
You can always go to your special place / It’s right inside, beyond time and space
Feels oh so cozy, feels oh so warm / Feels so good to know you’re where you belong
