We continue building out the most comprehensive multidisciplinary group to advise us as we grow and fulfill our mission and we are excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Matthew Mara DMD, EdD to Hope for HIE’s Medical Advisory Board.
Dr. Matthew Mara DMD, EdD earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree and certificate of Advanced Education in General Dentistry from Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, where he currently works as a full-time Assistant Professor of General Dentistry in the Office of Global and Population Health. As part of his role, he leads the classroom education service-learning program where he guides first-year students as they design, rehearse, and implement grade-specific and culturally relevant nutrition and oral health-focused lessons in the Boston Public Schools. Additionally Dr. Mara is the course director for the Behavioral Science course and engages in funded research projects most recently exploring facilitators and barriers to rapid HIV testing in the dental clinics.
On December 4, 2022 Dr. Mara and his wife welcomed their first daughter, Vivian Claire, and shortly thereafter joined the Hope for HIE family. Dr. Mara hopes to bring his knowledge of oral health, his personal experience with HIE, and his strong focus on patient and provider education to the Hope for HIE Medical Advisory Board.
